  9. Echo   This disk contains two .EXE files which actually contain multiple files
  10. Echo   that have been compressed using PKSFX from PKWARE, Inc.  When you enter
  11. Echo   the file name and press Enter, it will execute just like a program and
  12. Echo   uncompress all the files contained therein to the CURRENT DRIVE AND
  13. Echo   DIRECTORY.  The file called USERDOC.EXE contains the The Guardian docu-
  14. Echo   mentation and GUARDIAN.EXE contains the programs.

  16. Echo   Some distributors compress these files further so they can fit more
  17. Echo   products on one disk.  If you received such a file (it may have been
  18. Echo   called GUIARDIAN.ZIP, for example), you have already gone through the
  19. Echo   first step to be able to read this file.  In addition to the compressed
  20. Echo   files referred to above, the following files are part of The Guardian:

  22. Echo     README.BAT (This file), README2.BAT, WARNING.BAT, INSTALL.BAT,
  23. Echo     INTRO.BAT, INTRO.TXT, GUARDIAN.MRE, and PBS-VIEW.COM

  29. Echo   If these files are already on a diskette, you can skip the following
  30. Echo   paragraph.

  32. Echo   The first thing you need to do is to copy all of these programs onto
  33. Echo   a diskette.  Simply set the DOS command prompt to the drive and directory
  34. Echo   where this file is located, and copy all the Guardian files to drive A:.
  35. Echo   Then delete the files on your hard disk.  You now have a "distribution
  36. Echo   disk" in the same condition that we provide to the distributors.

  38. Echo   The file called INSTALL.BAT will install The Guardian for you.  (It
  39. Echo   is summarized in README2.BAT).  It assumes that the files are in drive A:.
  40. Echo   At the end of the INSTALL procedure, you will need an empty formatted 
  41. Echo   diskette or one with at least 150K of available space on it.  INSTALL will
  42. Echo   copy the master menu program, TGM.EXE, and the master configuration file,
  43. Echo   GUARDIAN.MRE, to the diskette.  It is IMPERATIVE that you have this program
  44. Echo   on a spare disk in case you inadvertantly lock your hard disk.  TGM.EXE is
  45. Echo   the program that allows you to unlock a disk.

  51. Echo   If you look at a batch file such as INTRO.BAT, you will see that it simply
  52. Echo   runs the program PBS-VIEW.COM.  This program is from Public Brand
  53. Echo   Software; it allows you to view the contents of its companion TXT file
  54. Echo   and scroll back and forth through it.

  58. Echo   If you have already created the directory where The Guardian is to be
  59. Echo   installed, when INSTALL.BAT runs, you will see a message "Unable to
  60. Echo   create xxxx" (where xxxx is the name of the directory).  INSTALL is
  61. Echo   merely trying to create a directory that already exists.

  63. Echo   If The Guardian is already installed, INSTALL will NOT replace the
  64. Echo   configuration file GUARDIAN.MRE.  However, if you are installing a
  65. Echo   registered copy, you should replace it yourself because of the serial
  66. Echo   number.  Run UPDATE.BAT or read UPDATE.TXT for more details.

  72. Echo                Special Demo Program For New Version 2
  73. Echo  
  74. Echo   Included on this disk is a special demonstration program called
  75. Echo   TGM20.EXE which is a limited edition of program TGM in Version 2 of
  76. Echo   The Guardian.  Version 2 became available in June, 1992 and is not
  77. Echo   available as shareware.  Version 2 is a totally new set of programs
  78. Echo   and contains many new and powerful features.  Run the program for
  79. Echo   information on how to receive it and see samples of the new features.
  80. Echo   Also included in Version 2 is a new program which allows you to lock/
  81. Echo   unlock any disk(s) directly from DOS and bypass the menus. (It could
  82. Echo   be included in a batch file if you wished).
